Musical theatre dancing is less of a particular style, and more of a description of dancing that is rooted in the diverse history of Broadway musicals. Relying heavily on a knowledge of ballet, tap, and jazz, musical theater dancers are, first and foremost, actors and place a high focus on musical interpretation.
Musical Theatre Dance classes focus on…
• Establishing strong dance technique
• Increasing strength, flexibility, and endurance
• Learning the dance vocabulary used in musical theatre
• Building musical theatre dance repertoire of Broadway Choreography
APPROPRIATE DANCE ATTIRE: Students should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.
Instructor: Anna Trattner
Anna Trattner just recently graduated from the University of Tampa with a BA in Applied Dance (dance education). She began dancing at the age of 4 and has been trained in a variety of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, contemporary, hip-hop, musical theater, improvisation, lyrical and modern. She competed in regional and national dance competitions for 8 years where her team won multiple titles at both levels. She also worked as a character and performer at western theme park Frontier Town. While in college, Anna studied the brain-compatible teaching methods of Anne Green Gilbert and she had the opportunity to perform and choreograph for a variety of campus and community events. She also became a part of the National Dance Educators Organization and was able to attend conventions with other dancers and teachers from all over the United States. Since earning her degree, she has been teaching a variety of classes with a Tampa-based company called Creative Movement and Dance before moving back home to Ocean City. Anna is excited to share her love of dance and her passion for teaching with the students at Red Doors. Limit 12
